Travelers mountaineering on the Grand Teton trip

Itinerary

Flying into Jackson Hole airport, it’s difficult not to get the feeling that an adventure is already underway. You’ll land at the foot of the Teton Range and be promptly greeted by your trip leaders and the rest of your group. Once everyone has gathered, you will travel the short distance to your first campsite in Grand Teton National Park. There, you’ll learn to set up camp for the first time, familiarize yourself with the group gear, and get to know each other by playing games and telling stories around the night’s campfire. The next day, an introductory day hike within Grand Teton National Park will take you amidst high mountain lakes and the majestic range that will be the backdrop for your next three weeks. The following day, your group will make all of the necessary preparations for your first backcountry adventure – backpacking in the Teton Wilderness.

With inspiring, snow-capped summits dotting the skyline above turquoise alpine lakes, the pristine Teton Wilderness area is the perfect environment to experience the magic of backcountry travel for the first time. You’ll learn important skills such as how to pack efficiently and how to minimize your impact as you travel by following Leave No Trace principles. After days hiking through beautiful alpine meadows, you will camp each night in secluded backcountry campsites, prepare delicious backcountry meals, and enjoy each other’s company before crawling into bed under the star-strewn sky.

Following your backpacking excursion, your group will head back to the civilization of Jackson Hole to do laundry, go grocery shopping, and take showers. From there, you will set your sites north and head into the wondrous Yellowstone National Park. That evening, you will meet your sea kayaking specialist and prepare for your next backcountry adventure – sea kayaking on Yellowstone Lake!

You will head to one of Yellowstone’s secluded high elevation lakes for your three-day sea kayaking adventure. Exploring remote areas of the park, privileged only to non-motorized boats, you’ll learn the basics of sea kayaking as you paddle each day. At night, you’ll set up exclusive campsites on the quiet sandy shores, learn about the natural phenomena that make this region so incredibly unique, and enjoy s’mores around the fire.

After paddling out of the wilderness, you will take a day to experience Yellowstone’s must see sites including geological phenomena such as the legendary Old Faithful geyser and the vast Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. That evening, you’ll head back towards Jackson Hole and spend the night at your front country campground in the Gros Ventre Wilderness.

Finally it’s time to prepare for your ascent of the Grand Teton! Your first two days will be spent learning climbing skills from the best instructors around: the Exum Mountain Guides. After that, you’ll ascend to the camp at the lower saddle – an incredibly beautiful place where you’ll enjoy a sunset vantage point across the Teton Range. After spending the night on the saddle you’ll rise early to begin your climb of the 13,771 foot spire! As you start your climb, you’ll feel encouraged to press on as the rising sun warms your back, and by mid-morning you’ll be on top of the world. As you bask in your incredible achievement, any obstacle you had to overcome will seem insignificant in comparison as you stand on the summit. After you’ve all enjoyed your time on the peak, you’ll make your way back down to the valley and then into Jackson for showers, laundry, and a well-deserved post-climb feast!

After your incredible summit of the Grand Teton, you’ll take to the rapids for a final day of fun. A premier spot for whitewater rafting, the Snake River delivers exhilarating class III rapids and is a perfect way to tie up the end of your trip. That night, you’ll gather for yet another magnificent feast at the traditional Wilderness Adventures final banquet. This celebration will give you one last time to laugh and relive all of your fantastic adventures, for the following morning it will be time to say goodbye. And although it’s always hard to say farewell, at least you’ll never have to let go of your wonderful memories and all of the new friends you’ve made.

Everyone was always enthusiastic and encouraging to everyone, and by the end we had truly bonded.
