Day 1-4

You will fly into Barcelona and take the next few days to explore Spain’s most cosmopolitan city with your group. Together, you will explore the art, architecture, and culture of the city. You’ll discover the great works by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi, who’s modernist landmarks dot the cityscape. You’ll have the chance to visit the esteemed Sagrada Familia church in person, soak up the sun at La Barceloneta city-side beach, and you’ll taste authentic Spanish foods at the Boqueria Market.

Day 5-7

After a short transfer to Palamos, you and your group will reach Costa Brava on the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll spend the next few days here sea kayaking along the spectacular cliffs of the Spanish coastline! These couple of days are a great way to relax, as well as time to continue to get to know your trip mates. Next, your adventure takes you into the great Pyrenees.

Day 8-15

While on your backpacking expedition through the Pyrenees, you’ll be averaging approximately seven to ten miles a day as you travel through the Estant de Sant Maurici and Aiguestories National Park. Primarily, your destined trail will consist of the famous “Carros de Foc” or “Chariots of Fire” hiking circuit! While on the trail, you’ll be trekking over high-mountain passes and around soaring spires. The route meanders through sparsely traveled countryside, where you’ll have the time and lack of distractions to take in this amazing landscape and the authentic European culture of these rural areas. You’ll even have opportunities to brush up on your Spanish and experience the life of a shepherd.  At night you will be staying in traditional mountain huts, famous across the backpacking routes of Europe. These huts provide a home-cooked meal, a comfortable bed to sleep in, and fascinating conversation with travelers from around the globe!

Day 16

Following our trek through the Pyrenees, you will spend a day white water rafting the Noguera Pallaresa River. Rated as one of the best rafting rivers in Europe, you will paddle through class II and III rapids, making this day one to remember.

Day 17-18

By Day 17, it will be time to leave the gorgeous Spanish countryside behind and head into France. You and your group will take a train to Chamonix, France where you will spend a day relaxing, doing laundry, shopping, and exploring the town before beginning your next adventure – the Tour du Mont Blanc.

Day 19-24

The Tour du Mont Blanc is considered one of the finest walking circuits anywhere in the world. For the next six days, your group will trek this classic Alps route starting in France, and ending in Italy. For those of you that have taken French or Italian, in school, you’re sure to get the opportunity to polish your linguistic skills this summer! The route is ideal in length. Moderate days early in the trip will eventually give way to more challenging days as the group becomes stronger. Departing on your first day from Chamonix, you’ll make your way through various mountain villages such as Courmayeur, Italy. The scenery of the Mont Blanc massif and its corridor is unmatched anywhere in Europe. Dramatic valleys, hanging glaciers, blooming wildflowers, and snowcapped cols will surround you on a daily basis. The accommodations each evening along the trail will be a mixture of high alpine huts and small village hostels. Your comfortable dormitory style sleeping rooms and filling dinners will be the perfect way to end a great day of hiking. Throughout the six days of hiking, group members will take turns as the “ leader of the day”. It’ll be the perfect opportunity to learn and practice route planning, map, and compass use, and other essential backcountry techniques.

Day 25-28

After the Tour du Mont Blanc, you and your group will head to Paris for 3 days of cultural exploration. While in Paris, you will stay at a quaint Parisian hotel, located in the shadow of Monte Martre. This perfect spot will serve as home base base while you explore the city of lights. You’ll visit many historic sites, including the River Seine, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. Your European experience will conclude with a traditional final banquet. The following morning, you will say farewell to your new best friends from the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, as you head back to the United States.
