Operations & Logistics Intern

This is a Full Time Seasonal Position. Contract dates are April 29 – August 15 and the work schedule is Saturday – Tuesday, 9am – 6pm (36 hours/week).

Job Duties

The Operations & Logistics Intern will report to the Director of Operations and will be heavily involved in summer operations and risk management for Wilderness Adventures’ Overnight Programming.

LOGISTICS DUTIES

  • Assist the logistics team in planning all logistics for the set of trips assigned. This includes lodging, transportation, gear, activities, backcountry routes, hygiene stops, food shopping, and more. 
  • Vetting, evaluating, communicating and liaising with all subcontracted partners for each detail of every program. 
  • Provide Trip Leaders with all resources needed for successful program execution. 
  • Create, collect, manage and track student paperwork required for each program. 
  • Work with the Director of Operations and other members of the Leadership Team to create and improve systems that contribute to the successful execution of WA programs. 
  • Provide consistent, informed, and professional support to all groups in the field regarding the logistics of their program, subcontractor relationships, itinerary wrinkles, etc. primarily via phone when trips are in the field. 
  • Support the TSD Intern with any Jackson-specific needs including gear maintenance and repair, vehicle maintenance, facilities duties, and any other assigned duties as they come up during the contract period. 
  • Any additional duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or any other member of the WA Leadership Team.

RISK MANAGEMENT AND STAFFING DUTIES

  • Participate in the On-Call Team during the length of the contract. On-Call Team members are required to be available outside of the regular work day (6pm-7am) to respond to any emergencies or time sensitive issues when the office is closed. The assigned on-call member is responsible for managing all incoming requests during this time period (6pm-7am) and therefore must maintain stable cellular and wifi service and be available to assist at any time unimpaired. 
  • Participate in the on-going training of the summer staff team including staff training  (two weeks at the beginning of the summer), continual coaching throughout the summer, and engagement after the summer.
  • Utilize WFR experience to provide guidance to trips in the field experiencing medical situations including treatment, internal and external communication, and follow-up.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Fluent written and spoken English required, fluency in French and/or Spanish a plus.
  • Driver’s License required.
  • WFR Certification.

 

Requirements & Work Environment

  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit; and frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Physical demands related to travel.
  • This job occasionally requires lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
