Real Stories from Partner Schools

Children’s Day School in San Francisco found us online, and our partnership started through the completion of the Custom Trip Request form! From 2023 to present day, we have offered a variety of trips for their middle school students from backpacking in Yosemite to sea kayaking in Point Reyes. In close collaboration with the Middle School Director, each year the trips are tweaked and curated to best fit the needs of the students, which is our promise to you as a school.

A CDS teacher said, “Being in the outdoors, out of traditional classroom spaces, is a wonderful way for our students to bond with each other early in their school year. These experiences are so meaningful for them, and a chance to learn new skills as well. Also, this time together provides them with important collaborative skills; like working as a team to put up your tent, for instance – or prioritizing group-think as a safety precaution.”

Episcopal High School Seniors travel to the Tetons with WA to embark on three-week leadership expeditions. The group backpacks, white water rafts, and attempts a summit of the Grand Teton. These students return back to school in August with newfound leadership skills, confidence, resilience, and an appreciation for the natural world, setting them and their peers up for a successful Senior year. Over the years, this trip has remained a strong tradition for EHS students and WA leaders alike.

In the Fall of 2019, Jackson Hole Community School began their partnership with WA to provide an annual outdoor education experience for all of their high school students and faculty. The school breaks into several mixed grade groups and embarks on backpacking trips throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. By the time students are seniors, they are helping underclassmen pack their packs, create gourmet backcountry meals, and guide the groups down the trail.

Beginning with a conversation with our owner, Tom, WA partnered with St. Joseph School in the Fall of 2024. The entire 8th grade breaks into small groups and spends a week at the start of the school year backpacking through the Cascades. Students push themselves as they put on heavy packs and hike along rugged trails. Soaking up the pristine wilderness, fully disconnected from devices and homework, students return refreshed and ready to tackle the school year as leaders of the Middle School.
