Non-Profit Magic

At Wilderness Adventures, we know that outdoor experiences can transform lives, but we believe that these experiences should not be limited by finances or circumstance. That’s where our partnerships with non-profit organizations come into play. We work with non-profit partners to design custom programs that open the wilderness to deserving students who may not otherwise have the means to experience these life-changing adventures. Together, we remove barriers, amplify impact, and ensure that each trip is safe, inspiring, and unforgettable.

Twenty-nine years ago Lindsay Payne was diagnosed with leukemia. Three years later, she spent a month with Wilderness Adventures exploring the Wyoming wilderness alongside 15 other teenagers – hiking, canoeing, and just being in nature. Lindsay believes this trip changed her life and she wants to give this gift to adolescent cancer survivors so that they can enter adulthood renewed, confident and empowered to become even better versions of themselves post cancer.

As part of her fundraising efforts, Lindsay and her husband climbed the Grand Teton in September 2024 to raise money for the trip. She successfully raised enough to fully fund a trip in Wyoming for adolescent cancer survivors. The group spent two weeks backpacking in the Wind River Range, sea kayaking on Yellowstone Lake, and rafting down the Snake River.

One mom noted the following when her son returned, “In the few days he’s been home, I’ve noticed a new quiet confidence in him that was definitely not there before. He is more sure of himself and less timid. He kept a journal while they were gone… As a mom who watched him struggle for so long after treatment was over to find himself again, reading that entry fills my heart more than words can express. I can’t thank you enough for giving him this opportunity. I am excited to see where this new confidence takes him!”

The goal is to continue to offer this trip for years to come so that cancer survivors can have the same life changing experience that Lindsay had while with Wilderness Adventures. This fall Lindsay launched www.wild-horizons.org as a landing page for information, outreach, and donations.

The Wilderness Adventures Foundation (WAF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on the principle that socioeconomic circumstances should never stand between a child and the life‑changing experience of summer camp. Since its launch in 2022, WAF has worked to lower financial barriers and make the summer camp experience accessible to students who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity.

WAF is proud to work with community partners who send students to WA trips, removing socioeconomic barriers and creating space for more voices and stories around our campfire. Whether through direct financial aid to families, sponsorships with partner organizations, or collaborative programs that serve diverse communities, together we can support youth outdoor adventures.

Support a student’s journey and join us in building a community where access to outdoor adventure is possible for every child, regardless of financial means.
