Job Description

Wilderness Adventures’ Base Camp has been providing magical summer experiences for our campers since 2017! Operating at Snow King Mountain, Base Camp provides an exciting and excellent day camp experience for kindergarten – 8th grade campers. Base Camp is seeking a skilled, dedicated and enthusiastic Program Director to lead Base Camp during the 2021 summer!

Job Functions

  • Design, deliver, and evaluation camp program that meets the needs and interests of youth and the camp’s target markets to ensure the delivery of a camp experience in a safe and quality manner
  • Ensure lesson plans are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers
  • Supervise drop-off and pick-up of campers
  • Mid-summer evaluation of staff
  • Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in various program activities
  • Coordinate all camp programs and activities with other staff
  • Manage the enrollment of campers throughout the summer
  • Oversee the financial management of camp throughout the summer
  • Be the primary point of contact for the community that is Base Camp
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs
  • Lead the execution of staff training
  • Provide guidelines for programs utilizing camp equipment
  • Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures in all program areas
  • Manage maintenance needs of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas
  • Oversee daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair
  • Ensure that program areas are kept free of hazards and debris
  • Lead the set up and take down of Base Camp as well as other camp activities
  • Order necessary supplies to adequately run Base Camp
  • Coordinate any major issues with Snow King
  • Manage, Supervise and evaluate counselors to develop and implement all facets of camp program activities
  • Regularly monitor work of counselors
  • Train, supervise and evaluate seasonal staff
  • Oversee counselors summer schedules and assignments
  • Provide feedback and guidance to counselors
  • Actively manage and inspire all staff members
  • Provide performance evaluations of all staff at the end of the summer
  • Develop and implement schedules and records for all areas of camp program and facilities
  • Create camper and group program and choice activity schedules/rosters
  • Attend all staff meetings.
  • Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff.
  • Participate enthusiastically in camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
  • Provide ongoing program ideas to counseling and activity area staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents and be able to answer their questions as it pertains to the program
  • Be the direct contact for all counselors
  • Ability to drive campers in a 15-passenger van when required
  • Any other duty that may arise in order to advance the overall brand

Qualifications

  • Experience in administrative roles at camp
  • Experience working with youth in an educational environment
  • Current instructional certification in program or related experience
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR
  • 21+ years old
  • Training and experience in teaching program to adults and children
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
  • Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
  • Ability to hike, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs
