The 2008/2009 holiday season was one of record snowfall here in Jackson Hole. As a matter of fact, over five feet of powder fell in one five day period, triggering avalanches throughout the valley and more specifically, the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. While “powder hounds” greeted the weather with joy, there were several days when the resort was unable to fully open in order to manage avalanche control.
Our Wilderness Ventures office staff took advantage of this wintry weather by carving turns at both the ski area and in the backcountry when not in the office. Winter is still only half over but it is entirely possible this year will come close to last year’s record snowfall of over 600 inches!
