50+ Years of Rich History

Wilderness Adventures was established in 1973 when Mike and Helen Cottingham combined their love of the outdoors with their passion for education. Over the years, we have upheld and expanded on operating permits in the most spectacular and beautiful national parks, national forests, and Wilderness areas in America.

There are now 35,000+ WA alumni! Over the last 50+ years of programming, we have stayed true to our mission and values of executing life-changing adventures for young people in remarkable locations. With emphasis on Community, Leadership, and the Natural World, we aspire to inspire growth and wonder amongst today’s youth.

Expertise Born From Passion

Our Leadership Team embodies a lifestyle of perpetual adventure! Each member cherishes the great outdoors and delights in sharing its wonders with others. With a wealth of personal experiences from countless escapades, we possess a distinctive blend of backgrounds and skills that grant us deep insight into the essence of adventure—the thrills, the anticipation, and the invaluable moments that enrich our lives, whether in grand expeditions or simple outings.

As a close-knit team of dedicated outdoor enthusiasts, each of us brings a unique tapestry of adventuring expertise. We wholeheartedly embrace outdoor pursuits because, quite simply, there’s nowhere else we’d rather be!

American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation

WA is proud to be one of 2,000 out of 16,000 camp organizations to hold an ACA certification. ACA accreditation is the best evidence a parent can have as to a program’s commitment to the health and safety of a child – this designation shows a commitment of the camp to meet the highest of standards.
