Day 1

After landing in San Jose, we will head to our nearby hostel to begin our adventure! After a good night’s sleep, everyone will be anxious to get up and start our orientation in this foreign country!

Day 2-6

After a delicious breakfast, we’ll head over to our language school to begin our first day of classes. By balancing formalized language instruction with community service and immersive activities that explore the sights and culture of Costa Rica, we’re certain to build both new language skills and solidify our ability to apply those skills in the real world. Before diving into coursework, we’ll each take a brief assessment to determine our skills and existing abilities, allowing us each to enjoy and benefit from a small class that’s both rewarding and engaging. During each day in the classroom, we’ll enjoy highly interactive half-day classes facilitated by native-speaking professional language teachers.

Day 7-8

Next up, exciting surfing instruction on the Pacific Coast! Here, our professional surfing instructors will introduce us to this fun and empowering sport in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. With wide, stable boards, you will be amazed how quickly one can pick up surfing. The beginner beach breaks provide rolling waves that one can ride for several hundred yards. Before you know it, you will be “hanging ten” in Costa Rica.

Day 9-10

After a weekend on the coast, we will dive back into our classroom instruction for the rest of the week.  As much as our journey is about connecting exciting environments with cultural activities and the Spanish language, it is the lasting bonds that we form as a group that we’ll appreciate throughout our lives. To balance our daily instruction, we’ll also embark on exciting afternoon trips that connect language, culture, community service, and fun.

Day 11

We’ll say goodbye to our new friends from school and marvel at our new found ability to express nuanced concepts as we discuss and reflect on our adventure in Spanish.  We travel to Turrialba to prepare for our final adventure, rafting the Pacuare!

Day 12-14

As the culminating activity for our wonderful journey, we’ll embark on a fantastic overnight rafting trip down the mighty Pacuare River, through virgin forests and steep gorges towering above the riverbanks. The Pacuare offers some of the finest rapids in Latin America, as well as an exciting ride down a breathtaking tropical river that winds deep inside one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primordial rain forests! After everyone is briefed on safety measures, our remarkable rafting voyage down this renowned river begins. Untouched wilderness stretches out in every direction as your raft squeezes between huge boulders and runs long stretches of powerful rapids. The thick undergrowth provides shelter for jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths and a myriad of species of colorful tropical birds. Costa Rica adventures don’t get any better than this! During these final days in Costa Rica we’ll return to San Jose where we’ll have an opportunity to explore this thriving downtown area. One last chance to soak in the culture as we visit museums, historic spots and restaurants before we meet for our end of the trip banquet. Our departing banquet is a time to celebrate the magic that we just experienced with our new friends from all over the United States. It’s also a time to revel in our accomplishments and reminisce over good times. On our final day we’ll depart from the San Jose Airport.
